The Minelab VANQUISH 460 is the value hinge of the new 60 series. It keeps the 360’s V10X coil and 1.16 kg weight but adds the controls most likely to remove a real buying constraint: automatic ground balance, 30 discrimination segments, ten sensitivity levels, Field mode, a User Profile, backlighting, flashlight, handle vibration, included wired headphones, and Bluetooth LE Audio.

Move from the 460 to the 560 only when its five tones, adjustable ferrous volume, fourth Iron Bias position, or larger V12X stock coil has a defined job. The 560 does not add automatic ground balance or wireless audio; the 460 already has both.

This is a researched comparison, not a field test. We did not swing, submerge, charge, or depth-test these detectors. We reconciled Minelab’s current US pages because several official tables disagree with one another. That audit changes a few facts repeated in ordinary spec comparisons.

Verdict: buy the 360 for deliberate simplicity, the 460 for the best control-per-step balance, and the 560 for specific audio or coil requirements. Do not buy the 560 merely because it is the top number.

Exact model map

Minelab gives all three current detectors Multi-IQ simultaneous multi-frequency operation, 119 target IDs (-19 to 0 ferrous and 1 to 99 non-ferrous), an internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery, automatic Noise Cancel, an “up to 10 hours” runtime, and IP68 submersion to 5 m/16 ft. Those shared features do not decide the model.

Why the 360-to-460 step is the important one

The 360 and 460 use the same V10X coil and publish the same 1.16 kg/2.6 lb weight. The upgrade is therefore mostly about control and feedback, not a larger search head.

The 460 increases discrimination resolution from six to 30 segments: 24 more, or a 400% increase. Sensitivity rises from five to ten levels, a 100% increase. Those percentages describe control granularity only; they do not prove 400% better separation or twice the depth.

More important than the counts, the 460 adds automatic ground balance. Minelab says the 460 and 560 perform Auto Ground Balance by holding the plus button while pumping the coil over clear ground. That is a material boundary for changing or mineralized sites. It is not listed for the 360.

The 460 also adds Field mode and a User Profile, plus display/keypad backlighting, a flashlight, handle vibration, LC3 wireless audio, and wired headphones in the box. The 360’s current product diagram does show a 3.5 mm headphone socket, but its package does not include headphones.

Choose the 360 when the point is to switch on, select a broad mode, and hunt without building a control routine. Choose the 460 when any one of ground balance, Field mode, a saved profile, wireless audio, low-light tools, vibration, included headphones, or finer rejection control is genuinely needed.

What the 560 actually adds over the 460

The 560 keeps the 460’s 30 discrimination segments, ten sensitivity levels, four modes, ground balance, backlighting, wired audio, and LC3 wireless system. Paying more does not unlock those again.

The first real addition is audio. The 560 moves from three target tones to five and adds ten ferrous-volume levels. Minelab’s FAQ says tone pitches and breakpoints are not adjustable across the family, so the 560 is still a fixed-tone detector. Its advantage is more tone regions and control over ferrous loudness—not a custom audio architecture.

The second addition is Iron Bias range. The 460 has levels 0, 1, and 2; the 560 adds -1. That gives one more low-bias position for a user who deliberately wants less iron filtering. It is not a universal “find more” setting. Test repeatability from multiple directions and expect more iron information when filtering is reduced.

The third addition is the V12X 12 × 9 inch stock coil. If both ellipses are treated as simple geometric faces, V12X’s nominal 84.82-square-inch face is about 54.3% larger than V10X’s 54.98 square inches. That is only a coverage proxy. Coil winding, field shape, target size, frequency processing, ground, sensitivity, overlap, and sweep control prevent it from becoming a depth or separation claim.

The V12X configuration adds 0.10 kg over the V10X models, about 8.6%. A larger coil may suit open beaches, fields, and broad park lanes; the same footprint may be less convenient around dense iron, roots, playground frames, stubble, or narrow water gaps.

Standard 560 or Pro Pack

The Pro Pack is not a more powerful detector. Minelab’s current comparison shows the same 560 control unit and V12X coil, then adds the V8X 8 × 5 inch coil and ML60 Bluetooth LE Audio earbuds.

The V8X’s nominal ellipse-face proxy is 31.42 square inches—about 42.9% smaller than V10X and 63.0% smaller than V12X. Again, that is geometry, not measured performance. Its defensible use case is physical access and a smaller amount of ground under the coil at once in cluttered or confined sites.

Buy Pro Pack when the smaller coil already has a job and wireless earbuds are wanted from day one. Buy the standard 560 when the V12X covers the known sites, wired audio is acceptable, or the smaller coil is only a hypothetical future need.

Six official-source conflicts buyers should know

A model chart is useful only if the inputs agree. In this case they do not always agree, so we recorded the conflicts and the resolution used in the table above.

  1. 360 User Profile: its technical table marks “Custom User Search Profile” as yes, but the product page and mode list show Park, Beach, and All Metal only. We do not count a separate User Profile on the 360.
  2. 360 wireless phrase: the same technical page marks wireless audio “No” yet contains a Bluetooth aptX Low Latency phrase under key technologies. The product page and FAQ say the 360 has no wireless audio, so that is the decision-grade answer.
  3. 360 wired-audio row: the technical page marks wired audio “No” but then lists wired 3.5 mm headphones as an output; the product diagram also labels a headphone socket. We treat the socket as supported wired audio and distinguish that from no headphones being supplied.
  4. 460 operating temperature: its technical table prints 10°C to 40°C alongside 14°F to 104°F. Because 14°F is -10°C, and the FAQ gives -10°C to 40°C for the family, the Celsius table entry is missing a minus sign.
  5. 560 pound conversion: its technical page pairs 1.26 kg with 2.6 lb. The FAQ’s exact-coil table pairs the V12X detector with 1.26 kg/2.8 lb, which is also the sensible conversion. We use 2.8 lb.
  6. Launch-article weight: Minelab’s launch article says each detector weighs 1.26 kg/2.8 lb, while exact pages and the FAQ list the V10X-equipped 360 and 460 at 1.16 kg/2.6 lb. Exact model/coil figures take precedence.

The point is not to catch typographical errors for sport. It is to prevent a buyer from paying for a capability the 360 does not have or comparing weight using mismatched coil configurations. Waterproofing and audio fine print

All three detector control units and coils are rated IP68 to 5 m/16 ft, but submerged audio still requires the correct waterproof accessory. Minelab instructs users to fit the headphone-jack bung before submersion when headphones are not connected and identifies its waterproof headphones for deep-water use. Rinse the detector with fresh water after salt or beach exposure, keep sand out of moving parts, and dry the charging port before charging.

On the 460 and 560, “Bluetooth” does not mean any older wireless headset will work. Minelab specifies Bluetooth LE Audio using the LC3 codec and says Bluetooth Classic devices are not compatible. Do not assume an aptX Low Latency headset from an older VANQUISH 540 setup will carry forward.

Runtime is also conditional. Minelab states up to ten hours under factory-default conditions and notes that features such as the flashlight and vibration can reduce it. Treat that number as a planning ceiling, not a guaranteed full day in every temperature and configuration.

Pick by actual hunting constraint

Choose VANQUISH 360 when simplicity is the feature

The 360 makes sense for parks, dry sand, beaches, shallow water, and straightforward general searching when three tones and broad discrimination are enough. It is not merely the dry-land starter: the full detector shares the family’s 5 m waterproof rating.

Do not choose it when changing ground calls for Auto Ground Balance, when headphones are required, or when six segments cannot express the rejection pattern you intend to use. A low starting price does not compensate for a missing control you already know you need.

Choose VANQUISH 460 for the control hinge

The 460 is the strongest default because it clears most functional constraints without increasing stock-coil size or detector weight. It fits the buyer who needs ground balance, more discrimination resolution, a field-specific starting mode, a saved profile, low-light controls, or private audio.

Stop at the 460 when three tones convey enough information and fixed ferrous volume is acceptable. The 560 is not automatically more suitable for a beginner; its extra feedback and larger coil should solve a named problem.

Choose VANQUISH 560 for audio or V12X

Choose the 560 when five tones help organize the 119-ID scale, when lowering ferrous volume matters during long iron-heavy sessions, or when broad open-ground coverage makes V12X the intended first coil. Its extra low Iron Bias position also matters to operators who will test and deliberately use it.

Look elsewhere if adjustable tone breaks, many tone regions, selectable single frequencies, manual ground balance, or deeper configuration are requirements. The 560 adds useful choices within a simple platform; it does not turn VANQUISH into Minelab’s Equinox or Manticore control system.
